Elko New Market Remodeling Contractor
Most Elko New Market homes are less than 30 years old, so many are ready now for updated kitchens, fresher baths and finished lower levels.

Two old towns, one city, and a lot of newer homes
Elko New Market became one city on January 1, 2007, when the neighboring towns of Elko and New Market merged. Both go back to the 1800s, and Elko Speedway is a well-known local landmark. Still, most homes here are young. The bulk of them went up during the growth that began in the late 1990s, as new subdivisions filled in around the two original town centers.
That growth means many homes here are around 20 years old, right when original finishes start to wear. Builder-grade kitchens want more storage, better counters and real task lighting. Hall and primary baths need new tile, vanities and stronger ventilation. And since many houses were built with unfinished lower levels, basement finishing is often the first big project. The older homes in the original town centers need more basic work: layouts, plumbing and wiring.
Inside city limits, the City of Elko New Market issues building permits and handles inspections under the statewide Minnesota State Building Code. Pulling those permits and scheduling the inspections is our job, not yours. Some homes with an Elko New Market mailing address actually sit outside city limits, though, so we confirm which office has jurisdiction before drawing plans. Additions also get a zoning review of setbacks, lot coverage and height, which often calls for a property survey.
For a busy household, working with one design-build remodeling contractor keeps things simple. We plan the basement, kitchen or bath with you, put a written price on it before work starts, and manage every trade through the final inspection. Got several projects on your list? We can plan them together and build them in phases that fit your budget. Our budget and financing page explains how milestone payments work.
Where to start with an Elko New Market home
Nearly every house here fits one of three groups, and each has a natural first project.
Homes from the 2000s boom
The bulk of the city went up from the late 1990s through the 2000s. These homes have sound framing and workable floor plans, so the budget can go into finishes: cabinets and counters, a kitchen island, a tiled shower in place of a dated tub. Ballparks run about $25k to $45k for a kitchen refresh and $25k to $50k for a full primary bath, and our cost guide explains what moves the number.
Unfinished lower levels
A blank basement is space you already own. We finish lower levels into family rooms, offices and guest suites, with a code-compliant egress window for any bedroom. Test for radon first. The Minnesota Department of Health puts about 2 in 5 Minnesota homes at radon levels that pose a significant health risk. Ballpark for open finished space: $35k to $70k.
Town-center homes and acreage
Houses in the old Elko and New Market town centers, and farmhouses on the rural edges, need a different approach. Expect tighter kitchens, fewer baths and older systems. We plan around what's behind the walls and work lead-safe in anything built before 1978. Bigger lots often leave room for an addition, as long as it clears the setbacks.
